Dorothy A. Smith

Dorothy A. Smith, 84, of Sanger, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 in Denton, Texas. She was born on December 4, 1928 in Wirt, Oklahoma to Samuel Jesse and Ruby Ann (Stevenson) Lawson.

On June 9, 1949, she married James Loyd Smith in Denton, Texas. They made their home in Sanger where they raised their two daughters. She was a member of the Bolivar Baptist Church and worked as a nurse’s aide. Dorothy loved all animals and was a member and generous donor of the Humane Society.

She is survived by her two daughters, Marcella Hunter of Sanger and Connie George and her husband, Ricky, of Sanger; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; son-in-law, Lance Hunter; sister, Millie Smith; four brothers, Herman “Utah” Lawson, Miles Lawson, Samuel Lawson, and Dan Lawson.

A visitation will be held from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, March 8, 2013 at Coker Funeral Home, 403 Pecan Street, Sanger. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Bolivar Baptist Church (four miles west of Sanger on FM455), Bolivar, Texas with Bro. Dickie Amyx officiating the services. Interment will be in the Pilot Point Community Cemetery.
