Velva Caroline (Britton) Sons, 82 of Sanger, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 in Denton, Texas. She was born on February 6, 1930 in Bolivar to Clifford Winnerd and Jewel (Marshall) Britton.

Velva was a beautician and owner of Velva’ Beauty Shop for 25 years. She started at her home and later moved her salon to Denton. After retiring from cosmetology, she worked as a teacher’s aide for the Sanger Independent School District.

She is survived by her two daughters, Judy Begay of Sanger and Janice Favors of Lewisville; eight grandchildren, Matt Hassell of Denton, Shea Hassell of Sanger, Jeff Hassell of Keller, Andy Begay of Sanger, Tammy Favors, Jennifer Favors, Christy Favors and Trisha Favors all of Lewisville; five great-grandchildren, Timothy Hassell and Josh Hassell of Lewisville, Mitch Hassell and Dalton Hassell of Sanger and Alyson Haas of Lewisville.

A visitation will be held on Friday, February 8, 2013 from 6:30 to 8:00pm at Coker Funeral Home and funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 10:00 am at The Upper Room in Bolivar. Interment will be in the Bolivar Cemetery.
